Our Story
In 1979, I began my journey in the fire service with the Los Angeles County Fire Department, working on an Air-Attack hand crew at Camp 9-2. Alongside 30 other young, aspiring firefighters, I found a niche, becoming the go-to guy for firefighter recruitment information. Back then, getting the details needed to apply and test for firefighter jobs was no easy feat, but I developed a system to contact various fire departments and gather this critical information.
After a couple of years of rigorous testing, I landed my fire career with the Oxnard Fire Department in California, starting in October 1981. Little did I know, this was just the beginning of a larger mission. Soon, the calls from my old crew at Camp 9 started pouring in-everyone wanted to know who was accepting applications for firefighter positions. My wife and I realized that we could turn this into a service, one that would save aspiring firefighters both time and money, just as if I were still actively searching for a Fire career myself. Armed with little more than a typewriter and a lot of determination, we began collecting firefighter recruitment information for our growing list of subscribers.
Fast forward 29 years, and FireCareers has evolved from a small operation into a national resource, helping thousands of aspiring firefighters and those looking to advance in their fire service careers. In 2009, after I retired from the fire service, we were also celebrating our 14th year on the Internet, continuing to serve the community with pride. The name FireCareers came from humble beginnings, starting with our initials-P (Pam), C (Craig), F (Freeman)-which transformed into Perfect Firefighter Candidate (PFC). As we embraced the digital age, FireCareers became our brand and mission: helping people secure their dream careers in the fire service.
Today, FireCareers is growing again. Our company was acquired and we are integrating cutting-edge technology and new partnerships to enhance the services we provide. This next chapter aims to offer even more tools and resources to help fire service candidates across the country. With a dedicated team, including longtime staff members. We aim to be the largest Recruiting firm and Job board for the Fire service Industry.
